MISSION & VISION
It is our mission to help young men prepare for professional careers, entrepreneurship and community activism by providing resources, training and access to mentors.
The vision of Suits for Sons is to develop quality training and experiential education activities to our students; to give them access to funds and mentors that will make them ready for professional careers, entrepreneurship and community activism. We will always keep the focus of our efforts on bettering the lives of our students.
Where role models, information and sponsorship is needed, we come alongside to help “the village” get our boys and young men across the finish line and into the next leg of the race.
MORE ABOUT WHY EXIST
Suits for Sons, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of young men through training, mentoring and sponsorship. Our programs center around five key components:
- Suits (the look of success)
- Education (the tools for success)
- Etiquette (the culture of success)
- Mentoring (the example of success)
- Scholarship (the means of success)
We believe that there is value in training, mentoring and providing cultural experiences to young men to prepare them for future careers and contributions to society. We exist because merely matriculating through high school and undergraduate studies will not alone prepare young men for successful careers and develop their potential for leadership. We believe in the age-old saying “It takes a village to raise a child.” We are a part of that village for the young men we impact. We are active in the cities and the suburbs – impacting high school and college students.
We want to prepare them for societal dinners and special events. We want to make them ready to look the part and articulate ideas skillfully during interviews and when entertaining persons of influence. We want them to successfully intermingle and interrelate with the movers and shakers of their communities and the world with grace and diplomacy. We want them to grow up and become leaders in various facets of society and give back to their communities. We also want them to appreciate the look and feel of a custom-fitted suit!
The challenge that we find is that many young men do not have access to the information, mentors and experiences that level the playing field later in life when they move into their careers of choice. They enter the marketplace ignorant to the social norms, cultural standards and other subtleties that can be both career limiting and opportunity-restrictive. Our leaders and partners are accomplished and cultured. They are excelling in their careers of choice and have a heart for helping young men do the same.
Our programs are not designed to replace school programs, local church initiatives or the role of fathers, father figures and other role models. We exist to link up with them and add support. Where role models, information and sponsorship is needed, we come alongside to help “the village” get our boys and young men across the finish line and into the next leg of the race.
